College for me was an unreachable goal that I had set my eyes on upon graduating from high school. Since I could remember I had was diagnosed with a learning disabilities. With theses disabilities colleges would be a hard road; nevertheless, I want to attend school. Starting in community college I worked long hard hours trying to grasps the high speed learning environment. Many times in college with disabilities, i would ask myself if it even worth it, many they were right to give up this goal.…
An experience that has happened to me that will help me with my goals in school would be my time in the military. While I was in the military I learned that using time wisely, making smart choices and improved my reading and writing skills. Using time wisely is one of the most important things you can do. If you waste your time you can get so far behind that you fail. I have never been a failure and don’t plan to start anytime soon.…
“I know applying to colleges is the last thing you want to do right now, but you might change your mind,” a trusted friend told me. It was December of my senior year of high school, and college application deadlines were approaching quickly. I was recovering from a major illness at the time, and wasn’t ready to think about college. My plan was to spend a year living at home and working before I pursued higher education. In the following months, my recovery progressed rapidly.…
My past laid out upon a table. My GPA, my resume, my test scores. An unfamiliar man whom I met for the first time was frowning, turning around in his creaky red chair, while hurriedly trying to contextualize my life with just a few pieces of paper. For 15 minutes, he sat there, unhappy, tapping his foot, analyzing what I’ve “done” with my life. He took a sip of water and suggested that I go to community college.…
How My Community College has Changed My Life Growing up everyone emphasized how important it was and still is to further education after high school. I always kept this in the back of my mind, but never knew how I would be able to afford college. Researching different schools I realized tuition would cost more than I had saved up. I’ve been saving for higher education for quite some time actually.…
For me, I set goals because I want to achieve many things in my life. My goals are the dreams that I desire to become a reality. These goals are both long and short - term. My goals must be realistic as well if I wish to accomplish them. They cannot be reached without me taking the time to figure out what I am going to do in order to reach them.…
There is a variety of different types of colleges to attend. While universities are the most known, many upcoming freshmen, older scholars, and scholars who are seeking to take a few minor classes often seek enrollment in a community college. Currently, community colleges are on an arise for their attendance and knowability. Community colleges are having an epidemic that is causing its structure to be rethought. The idea of revamping community colleges is needed because finding ways to improve graduation rates, providing more assistance, and lowering cost will benefit all students who decide to enter into these types of college.…
Revamping Community College In the article “Revamping Community Colleges to Improve Graduation Rates” it talks about ways that people of education are working to help improve the graduation rate. While I am all for more people going to college and getting degrees, I do not agree with the changes that the article suggests. One of the changes that they are trying to enforce is the idea of free college. In the article, it states that “Bills are pending to carry out President Obama’s America’s College Promise proposal to make community colleges free to responsible high school graduates.”…
All my life, I’ve been aware of the people around me and considered what I could do to make their lives more fortunate. With this interest in mind, I joined the Anti-Bulling Club (ABC) at my school in the 6th grade, eventually becoming ABC president in the 10th grade. As president, my biggest priority was to make my school a place where students were welcomed to engage in discussion unafraid of what might be said; I tried accomplishing this goal by getting volunteers to hold the doors and greet peers to school each morning. Through creating this inviting atmosphere, students participated in more constructive conversation, leading to provoking questions that even teachers could not answer. When I transitioned to community college life in the…

My community college experience. It is very important to be involved with others in community college, it’s called community college so make sure to interact with others in that community. Joanne Jacobs reports in an article interviewing Isa Adney “The secret to success is people, Adney writes. Talk to classmates. Form study groups.…
As a running start student I could talk about how my experience at community college helped prepare me to transfer to a four year university, but the lessons I learned there were primarily limited to academics. Sure, I learned how to be successful in a college class room, that online classes don’t fit my learning style, and going to Hong Kong for two weeks in the middle of the quarter will significantly lower a GPA. (I eventually retook the classes from that quarter.)…
During the time I have been at University of North Alabama I have made educational, career, and life goals that I would have never thought about before. My educational goals are to complete my Bachelors of Science in Psychology as well as Spanish with a minor in international studies. I plan to continue my studies at a Graduate school to receive my PhD in Clinical Psychology as well as a Masters degree in Foreign Languages specialized in Spanish. After completing my educational goals, my career goals are to work as a Clinical Psychologist in a hospital to gain some initial experience.…
To the job site I brought in proficient computer skills including technical and software aspects. During my time at a Community College, I learned and advanced capabilities in Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access (database software). I believe this was an advantage when making the transition from Community College to University because I would be able to use advanced features in these programs to help me excel in projects and assignments. On the job site, I was able to further put into practice my computer skills, however, it was not to the extent of my full capabilities. It took a while before the staff in the department were able to notice my abilities with word processing software,…
