I worked in pre-kindergarten for four years. Currently, I am working as a teacher assistant for a K-5 elementary school. I love working with those babies every day. I enjoy watching their faces light up when they began to understand something as simple as an alphabet. Most days were a challenge because of their disabilities. However, I wanted to make sure they learned through singing and hands on material. I enjoyed watching the students grow academically. My goals were to make sure they were prepared as they transition to the kindergarten class. Teachers also play an important role in the classroom when it comes to the environment. I want to prepare an exciting, warm, fun and happy environment where children want to learn. Creating a warm environment, set the tone of student’s attention and participation. They have become my heroes and role models. I began to understand that great teachers have skills that I wanted to learn. I wanted to follow their footsteps. I had teachers that were good at explaining the subject content, they were patient and firm at the same time, they were fair, set high goals and knew how to motivate their students. I want to have the same type of values when I become a teacher. I want all my students to have high self-esteem, ready to accomplish any challenges that they may face and strive for excellence. I will be the teacher that sets high goals for my students. I will try my best to show all my students that they can reach their goals if that’s what they want to do. Therefore, I will inspire them to learn and most importantly understand what they learn.
