• The goal of the study was to exam whether children that nap after learning new verbs were able to retain that information. The researcher wanted to know if napping really made a difference in children learning. Sandoval and her colleagues tested 39 children within the age of 3 years old and were divided into two groups, the ones that napped and did not nap. Within these groups the children were randomly assigned whether that would nap for 30 minutes or not. The finding of their research was that of those students that napped within an hour of learning verbs were able to retain the information better. Due to this research, I do consider that napping does make a difference …show more content…
For example, the family members of the 3 years old were not involved. The test only involved in the 3 years old to take a nap followed by an exam to see if the information was retained. The population that was being targeted in this study was the 3 years old. The preschoolers were the group of people they wanted to learn about. (Dyer, 2017) Simple random sampling would have been the best to use because every member within the population would have an equal chance of being selected. (Dyer, 2017) Simple random sampling would of been the best because it can be a small enough group to be able to obtain the desirable results.
3. What is one ethical issue that the researchers probably had to address? (Even though the article may not refer to this, what can you infer based on what you know about ethic research with children?)
• One ethical issue that probably had to be addressed was where if children were places into the napping group where they did not nap before or if the ones that napped where places into the group that did not nap. This could of gave a negative effect to the study if the nappers were randomly assigned to the non-nappers group. By the children being placed in the wrong group it could of damage the way the functioning through the day. By some students not napping it could of effected the result which could of caused stress on the …show more content…
For example, after they took their nap, the 3 years old were able to demonstrate that they were able to recall those words more easily compared to the ones that did not nap. The outcome variable way able to be measured by observing the children after they took their nap. For example, the researched were able to observe how the children that took a nap were better able to recall the learning verbs.
b. How is it measured? (self-report survey, self-report interview, ethnography, naturalistic observation, systematic observation)
¬ This study was measured by systematic observation. Systematic observation is when there is a careful observation of one or more specific behavior in a setting. (Dyer, 2017) For example, within the context of the article we can infer that Sandoval and her colleagues were looking at the napping which seem to impact with learning verbs. This shows how there is a relationship among these two behaviors.
c. What are the strengths and limitations of that form of measurement that you think apply in this
