I never imagined myself waking up to start my day at the time I used to be dreaming in my sleep. I woke up each morning at 3am to cross the border between the United States and Mexico. Before I used to wake up at 7:30am and my mom or dad would drive me to school. My uniform would be already ironed and clean, ready for me just to put it on with breakfast served on the table. After finally crossing the borderline, I walked 5-10 min to get my first bus to Iris Avenue. Those minutes I consider to be the scariest of my day. Most women get raped, people get assaulted, and kidnapped in those minutes in that alley that would take you finally to the other side of the border. No police officer has control of that zone only the people who live near the zone. Economy makes people do undesirable things. Not always I will have someone to protect me and I have to know what is good and bad for me to make my own
