We travelled on a wagon and boarded a ship to America in England. I am here with my grandmother, my mom, my dad and my two younger brothers. We wanted to come to the USA because we were promised a better life in the USA and my grandparents on my mother’s side lives there. They promised us freedom, happiness and wealth in the USA.
My family and I are only allowed a small suitcase, so we had to leave many of our favorite things behind. The ship is really overcrowded and it smells. We sometimes have to go out on deck, even though it is freezing outside, just to get some fresh air. It is hard being cramped in the hull of a ship for weeks when it is dark, crowded and smelly. Anything is better than this, I hope we arrive in New …show more content…
Money weren’t any problem either. My grandfather used to have a lot of money. When he died, my dad inherited about 35 per cent of his money and my grandmother got the rest, about 65 per cent.
When we were done with everything on Ellis Island, we finally got on a boat that took us to a train station in New York. Then we got on a train to go to my grandparents’ house. They lived in Florida.
I was really looking forward to get to their house because I had heard that it was hot all year round. My friends in Norway told me that the winter, was pretty much the same as a Norwegian summer, but that it could be even warmer.

I did not get a lot of sleep on the ship from England because it was so crowded and it was night in Norway, so it was not weird that I was really …show more content…
On our way to their house, they told my family about how lucky we were. They had also arrived at Ellis Island, but that was a couple of years ago. We have been living in Florida for a few years now. My mom and dad have gotten jobs, my brothers and I have made new friends and started a new school, my grandmother does still live with us, but we have moved out of my grandparents’ house, to a bigger and newer house, ten minutes from my grandparents. I really like it here and I definitely think that I have gotten a better life here than in Norway. I truly miss my friends, but I am super happy that we moved.
