Nat Turner was born on October 2, 1800 in Southampton County, Virginia on a plantation owned by Benjamin Turner. Turner worked on many different plantations throughout his life. Turner was a very unique child. He claimed that he knew about historical events that happened before he was even born. Turner was a very religious Christian and later became a preacher. Thomas Gray, a local lawyer met with Turner to her his story. Turner told his story to Gray and his own words, Gray published what later would be known as the most accurate depiction of Nat Turner. Turner was then later hanged on November 11th in Jerusalem , Virginia.
Because of the little amount of facts on Turner, he can be portrayed in many different ways. There is no right character and no wrong character. Many white southerners made him out to be a villain but depending on the story he could be a very kind person. Like one from a film said “he fits no mold and fits every mold, all at once”.
Turner killed many innocent people including children and women in the process of his rebellion and he is infamous for this. Turner’s goal was not to kill innocent women and children but it was to gain freedom for he and his fellow slaves and if that meant killing innocent children and women then so be it.
