Nationalism was the underlying cause of World War 1 (WW1).Nationalism is the pride of a country feeling superior over everyone else. It caused a spark between many neighboring countries who were more or less stronger than another country.Many other causes can also be said to start World War 1 like imperialism and militarism, but nationalism will always be the underlying cause. Alliances made countries strong together and WW1 became a numbers game.It all started due to the Assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. One reason why Nationalism is the main cause of WW1 is the thought of every country being stronger than another one. In Document B, We can clearly see that where the start of the war happened. Austria wanted Serbia to apologize for the Assassination. Serbia was too proud to apologize and asked for help from Russia, while Austria had Germany( The alliances were of no help as well).France was helping Russia fight Germany as well as the United Kingdom.If it was not for all of these alliances and the fact that Germany was taken on more than one country , the war was taken to ridiculous lengths. …show more content…
All of the countries had some time of nationalism in itself, so the war went more than it needed to be. The alliances did not help at all, leading to most of Europe in battle. If it was not for Germany and Serbia having too much confidence and everyone being in an alliance with each other ( and also being very close with one another), it led to a scale of total war.This made Europe and WW1 in a numbers game trying to eliminate one country from harming another. For Example. Serbia has Germany while Austria had Russia, this led to France and England also getting involved due to their alliance.
