Natural hair is more admirable for black women. Ladies with rich tones of melanin should be inclined to flaunt their own exquisite, god-given texture and oppose society’s definition of beauty. Break the chains that idolizes silky,straight hair and restrains my sistas from adoring their natural roots. Unfortunately, women of color are still locked down with these chains of the “anti-self love” mentality. Some black women prefer relaxers and dislike the “nappy look”. Natural hair is versatile, healthier, less expensive than relaxed hair and more! I remember when I received my first relaxer, I was about 8 years old. I was so flattered with my hair! It seem two times as longer, straight was great to me! Over the years that greatness (that I once had begin to) deteriorated. My hair became damaged and flattened from relaxers. I tried several times to transition to natural but I seemed to always give in to “the Creamy Crack”. It was addictive as the substance it was compared to. I could not manage the two textures of natural hair and relaxed hair while transitioning, the only way out was to have the “Big Chop.” A “Big Chop” is when you cut all of your relaxed hair… and I had a very low cut. Returning back to “ my natural roots” is the best thing I’ve done so
