Nazi Party Versus Fascism
There are many similarities and differences between Italian fascism and German Nazism that has both positively and negatively affected history that Kershaw highlights in To Hell and Back as well as our class discussions.
Beginning with some differences, one of the most profound and key differences between Nazism and fascism is their differing views on race, racism, and racial superiority. Kershaw focuses much of his book on the explosion of ethnic racist nationalism. The concept of racial superiority was central to the Nazi ideology, with the Germanic and Aryan race at the top of the food chain, and the black and Jewish communities at the bottom and were considered inferior. Nationalism in Germany made an attempt to bring back a conservative and nationalistic society after the Great Depression where many Germanic people were suffering through the crash of the stock market as well as the aftermath of the defeat of World War I. Nationalism in Germany helped bring back national pride by solving the unemployment crisis. In strengthening the military, the Nazi party was able to give jobs to the jobless as they worked in armament factories.
