In a game of netball an athlete's body needs to be able to provide and sustain energy aerobically. This is dependant upon the individual's cardiovascular system to transport and efficiently use oxygen during the sustained exercise. In specific, aerobic training is significant for netball players due the stamina required to maintain intensity throughout the course of the game. The different type of aerobic training; continuous/ uniform (A single exercise sustained for an extended period, generally at low to moderate intensity- approximately 65%-80% of an athlete's maximum heart rate), fartlek (Frequent and random …show more content…
Shuttle runs, refers to long periods of high workloads followed by short rest periods, for example, 3 minute workload with 30-60 seconds rest period. Long interval training is beneficial for netball performance as it builds endurance quicker and allows athletes bodies to adapt and recover faster from the higher workload. Additionally, long interval training improves an athlete's V02 MAX (maximum amount of oxygenated blood that can be transported to and used by working muscles). Improvements to an athlete’s V02 MAX is beneficial for netball as players who need a higher V02 MAX, for example centre, are able to utilise more oxygen and suffer less fatigue than those players who require a lower V02 MAX, for example, a goal shooter.
Furthermore, skill training programs are often varied and have many different segments to them. Often skill training is done using methods that replicate the specific sport. Without the development of skills required in netball players/ athletes are not able to effectively perform to the correct techniques successfully and regularly. The different types of skill training include; drills practice, modified and small- sided games, and decision making and tactical
