II: Physical Geography
a) Location:
Japan is a country on the eastern part of the continent Asia. The country happens to be made up of thousands of islands, large and small. There are four major islands in the country of Japan, Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikou. The islands are located on the Ring of Fire.
b) Landforms:

The longest river is the Shinano which empties into the Sea of Japan. The Tone River and Ishikari River are other main rivers in Japan. Japan’s longest lake is Biwa, which is a home to freshwater and many different species of fish. Japan also has a large dam, the Kurobe Dam which is used for generation of electric power on the Kurobe River.
d) Climate: Like the United States, there is four seasons in Japan; winter, spring, summer, and autumn. The northern part of Japan has a different climate type than the southern part. In the northern areas of Japan, there is a humid continental climate. With this weather, you can expect cool summers but long and chilly winters. In the south, there is a humid subtropical climate, meaning there are warm winters and hot humid summers. Also, you can expect heavy rainfall and typhoons here.
e) Dangers:
Since Japan is on the Ring of Fire, Japan experiences a variety of natural disasters. These include earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.
