Many successful people throughout years have been influenced by others. For example many current NBA players have been influenced by Michael Jordan. Now there are also other ways people can influence you, for example people that help you make better decisions. Or others who teach you lessons. In the short story “Thank You, M’am” by Langston Hughes, and the song “ No Role Modelz” by J. Cole both narrators express the theme: having someone in your life can influence you for the better. In the beginning of the story Roger tries stealing money from Mrs. Jones. He tried to steal her purse but it ended up being to heavy for him and he fell. Instead of Mrs. Jones reporting him to the cops she decided to take him to her house and teach him a lesson. When she let him go the boy realized what mistake he made. In the beginning of the the story there was an old lady walking down the streets at night when a young boy came running and tried to steal her bag. Lucky enough the bag was really heavy and the boy couldn’t carry all of the weight. The lady caught him and decided to bring him to her house and change him for the better. While Roger was in Mrs. Jones house she taught him a lot and when she let him go he changes his perspective on what he did. In the song “No Role Modelz” by J. Cole he talks about how when he was younger he never had a father growing up. There were many bad decisions he had made as a kid and most of them were because he didn’t have that father figure to show him. But instead of having a person to actually get him through his life, he looked up to Uncle Phil. Uncle Phil is a fictional character in the tv show Fresh Prince of Bel Air. He was the one that was the father figure for Will Smith and J. Cole admired
