I typically sight mine in for twenty five yards, because that is more than enough distance to hit a target down a hallway or in a room of your home. I normally take two or three shots just to see what my point of aim is. After those two or three shots you sight in as needed to get on target. The red dot comes with three knobs on it. One to control the dots illumination, one for windage, and one for elevation. The illumination knob is fairly simple. You want the dot on the lowest setting possible. Just enough to see it, because the smaller the dot the more of the target you can see. Now elevation and windage are a little more complex. For example, if your shots are too high or too low you use elevation to move the dot up or down. If the shots are too far left or right you use windage to move the dot left or right as needed. Now your red dot is mounted and sighted in, take it out to the range and have
