The North and South; even though they were part of the same country, were very different places one was in the process of becoming an industrial powerhouse while the other was stuck in the past.
Economy
The North and South has vastly different economies. The North was caught up in the industrial revolution it began to use primarily use machines for almost everything. It developed a thriving industry of textile, iron, and steel production along with large connected railways and small farms the north had a much larger economy than the South, making up 75% of the United States’ wealth and 68% of its value of exports. Even though the north had a much better economy the south had much more farmland due to the fact it had fertile soil and was very warm year round which made farming easy. Although the south produced many materials it was hard to transport and sell them locally because there were very few large cities and the south contained only 35% of the United States’ train tracks. Overall the south had an inferior economy due to the lack of modern technology and the reliance on singular resource.
