In searching of the hospital budget and lost revenues on patient lost items, I discovered the following: allowance budget has been reduced few years ago and the financial office had no expenses statement or set and individual account specific that can indicates exactly how much the hospital paid on lost claim reimbursements. Furthermore, if there were any claims paid, the expense account was listed as miscellaneous on the financial statement. Anyone who has lost & found any personal belongings, they can report or claim by calling at 410-554-2677. After the 30 days period, if patients or family members do not come forward to claim anything of the lost belonging, than the security can donate the valuable items in good conditions to the charities and discard the other unused items. I think that this plan could be successful if all staff are trained on how to handle the patient belongings by documenting properly and secured them from the time they get admitted through the ED department, during their stay period, transfer and until discharge home or other
