LPN Scope of Practice The nursing profession is essentially like all other professions, with different levels of experience and education, requires different titles and level of practice followed. Inside the nursing practice there are different levels of caregivers that you work alongside, each of them having a different reason for being there. For example, in a nursing home you will work alongside non-certified personal, certified nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses, registered nurses and many more qualified care givers. “Patient centered care is the practice of caring for patients and their families in ways that are meaningful and valuable to the individual patient which includes listening to, informing and involving patients in their care”. (OneView, 2015) Patient centered care encompasses many different aspects that are “respectful of, and responsive to individual patient preferences, needs and values”. (OneView, 2015) Some of the focus groups include respect for patient’s values, preferences and expressed needs, coordination and integration of care, information and education, physical comfort, emotional support, family involvement, continuity, and easy access to care. With these focus groups in mind there needs to be managed care to be cost efficient such as Medicare or Medicaid. Managed care is defined as “health care coverage plans, such as health maintenance organizations and preferred provider organizations, designed to lower medical costs through several methods”. (NLN, 2014) Professionalism in nursing is taught during nursing school and continues throughout out a nurse practicing years. “Professional nurses are expected to demonstrate a certain degree of altruism, self-sacrifice, and the right attitude in their interactions”.
