The intent of this reflective practice essay is geared towards my learning experience during my placement setting while working with my buddy nurse and under the continual direction of my clinical instructor. I was assigned to care for an 85 year old female patient who was admitted with Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and Failure to Cope (FTC). On the clinical day before, I was told that she would be discharged the following day. I confirmed that information by reviewing her chart and saw the discharged order from the doctor’s order sheet and a key component that I read stated that ‘she would be leaving the following morning between the hours of 0830hr to 0900 hr’ and will be picked up by her daughter. On my arrival on the unit this morning, I know that of both of my patients, she should my first priority.
I visited her first, completed her head to toe assessment, daily’s vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, pain and bowel movement), and performed her activities of daily living (ADLs), I also completed her oral …show more content…
I was so consumed in taking care of my patient that was going to be discharged that I did not visited my other patient until after the patient care was completed and ready to leave which was after 0900hr. I should have at least taken five minutes just to check in on my other patient to make sure that he was not in any urgent need or I should have communicated with one of my peers in order to obtain assistance with my second patient. (Kozier et. al., 2014 p.581), explain how to manage time effectively by stating that, “strategies that can be employed to use time well involve setting goals and priorities, delegating appropriately, examining how time is used, minimizing paperwork (automating, whenever possible), and using regular schedules that avoid interruptions and set time limits on
