Strengths and Weaknesses When critiquing my performance of the OSCE interview I need to analyze my strengths and weaknesses to help me become a better interviewer. The weaknesses I encountered after listening back at my interview is the nervousness I displayed, the pace of my deliverance was fast, and the awkward moments of silence. For most individuals who gets nervous will speak faster than they normally would. Avoiding periods of silence would be something I need to work on, as I tend to compensate the periods of silence with filler words such as ums and ahs. According to Coulehan & Block (2006) they state being an active listener helps connect and establish a therapeutic relationship. Although it is easy to drift away into thinking about the next question while the patient is talking (Bickley & Szilagyi, 2013). An example when reflecting back on my interview I didn’t show enough empathy when listening to the patient’s compliant; rather I carried on to the next question. Summarization is another good interviewing technique to use to recapitulate information provided by the patient. Summarization brings a realization of how much the healthcare provider clinician listens to their patients (Bickley & Szilagyi, 2013). However, I did not use this technique effectively as the patient had to correct me couple of times due to misunderstanding
