Which has more Vitamin C: Orange juice from concentrate, Orange juice not from concentrate, or an orange flavored drink?
Hypothesis
If the orange juice is not from concentrate, it will have more Vitamin C. However, if the orange juice is from concentrate, less Vitamin C will be revealed. If the juice has artificial flavoring and sugars, it will have the least Vitamin C.
RESEARCH Ascorbic acid is scientific name for Vitamin C. It forms proteins that make skin, tendons, and blood vessels, assists in the healing of wounds, and repairs bones. The lack of this vitamin can result in medical problems such as anemia, constant nose and gum bleeds, scaly skin, and scurvy. Mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water.
Step 2. Boil with 250mL of water for 5 minutes.
Step 3. Add 10 drops of solution to 15mL.
Step 4. Add 30 drops of iodine to the new solution. PROCEDURE: Vitamin C Tests
Step 1. Add 10 drop of indicator to a test tube.
Step 2. Add 20 drops of orange juice from concentrate and stir.
Step 3. Repeat steps 1&2 for the orange juice not from concentrate and orange
Step 4. Compare colors and write results. A dark solution indicates low levels of Vitamin C while a light solution indicates high levels.
RESULTS
Based on my experiment data, my hypothesis was correct. The orange flavored drink was the darkest and brightest when mixed with indicator; therefore, it had the least Vitamin C. This was most likely due to the added sugars and artificial flavoring.
The orange juice from concentrate hat the most Vitamin C while the orange juice that was not from concentrate had darker that the juice for concentrate and lighter that the orange flavored drink. Therefore, it had less vitamin C than the juice from concentrate, but more than the flavored drink. Below are a graph and chart that reflect the provided
