Performance Enhancing drugs (PED’s) should not be legal in professional sports, and have been one of the major issues involved in them since the 1960’s. The first established ban on PED’s in major sports came in 1976 when the International Olympic Committee banned the use of steroids (CNN). PED’s allow for certain players to gain an advantage over other athletes because of their ability to allow athletes to train longer and more frequently, recover faster from injuries, and build muscle at higher rates.
There are more than one kind of performance enhancing drug, including anabolic steroids, stimulants, human growth hormone (HGH), and supplements. Anabolic steroids are a synthetic hormone that resembles testosterone.
