This diagnosis process persists of a specialist viewing the family medical history and then observing different symptoms displayed by the patient through blood tests, brain scans and a series of activities (Parkinson’s UK 2016). The activities are simple and include the following: patients writing, walking and speaking (Parkinson’s UK 2016). These activities are conducted to enable the specialist in closely observing the patient for such abnormal movement and symptoms that are common among those diagnosed with the disease (Parkinson’s UK 2016). The diagnostic procedure requires a specialist in an attempt to reduce the possibility of a misdiagnosis even though they still commonly occur in the diagnostic process (Parkinson’s UK 2016). Symptoms such as trembling, sleeping disorder, depression, dementia and difficulty swallowing are not unique to Parkinson 's; patients with diseases such as progressive supranuclear palsy express similar symptoms (Parkinson’s UK 2016, Izawa et al. 2011). Recently, the focus of the scientific community has been to discover methods or procedures which can eliminate the chances of misdiagnosis (Izawa et al. 2011).
