Policy: The pursuing of fleeing suspects can pose a danger to the public, officers and even the suspects that are fleeing. Police tactics used to stop fleeing suspects may be viewed as a use of force and may also seem unnecessary to the outside public. The purpose of this policy is to regulate the manner in which pursuits are undertaken and performed. Protection of the community and all involved should be first and foremost during all pursuits.

Interjurisdictional Pursuits: Officers shall discontinue pursuits when entering a neighboring jurisdiction unless otherwise asked to assist
Officers should notify neighboring jurisdiction of pursuits headed in their direction
Pursuits may pursue based on the willingness and capability of the other jurisdiction to assume control of the pursuit
Termination and Post Pursuit Procedures: The primary unit and/or supervisor shall continuously evaluate/reevaluate the pursuit circumstances and all of the initiating factors and terminate the pursuit whenever it is reasonable to believe the risks are greater than the
