Particulate can be defined or referred to as tiny particles of matter like dust, smoke, soot which are being emitted during agricultural and industrial processes as well as other economic activities. Various methods involved with particulate control operate basic principles. Solid particulate particles are usually isolated from gases where they are controlled by physical procedures like through a settling chamber. Settling chamber is a wide and elongated pipe where gases from production operations are permissible to pass.(C.C.Tawari, et,al (2012).
When the gases begins to drop down in the pipe, then the solid substances begins to settle out. Then they further removed through the bottom. Other particulates are also …show more content…
(d) VOC abatement: For VOCs abatement we have adsorption systems like: Bio filters, Activated carbon, Flares, Thermal oxidizers, Catalytic converters, Absorption (scrubbing), Vapor recovery systems, Cryogenic condensers.(C.C.Tawari, et,al, 2012).
4.1.4 Other Devices.
Acid Gas and SO2 control: This has do with both the dry scrubbers and wet scrubbers as well as flue gas desulfurization.
Mercury control: These include electro-Catalytic Oxidation also known as ECO, Sorbent Injection Technology, furan control and K-Fuel Dioxin .There are also some associated equipment known as Miscellaneous that are of two types which called Source capturing systems and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems.(C.C.Tawari et,al, …show more content…
There are also other state efforts and enforcements towards the environmental management such as Lagos Plan of Action of 1980. A bill of adopting a Federal Environmental Protection Agency was passed in 1981 in the parliament. While other small units came to existence like Protection Division in the Federal Ministry of Works, Environmental planning and Housing put in place to deal with environmental protection. Unfortunately, the bill was not successful the situation became more worse the described in the 1980s with continuous assault on the environment. The worst situation has been arising from the generation high volume of hazardous and toxic waste from the oil and gas industries. Example the was the SPDC Forcados Terminal tank disaster in 1978 and the pipe line incident of 1982 in Abudu community which accounted for over 600000 barrels of crude oil causing lot of damages in the environment. The oil extended to the entire neighbor hold communities with untold damages. Farm land were destroyed and crops withered, soil being dried off and aquatic lives destroyed.
Furthermore there was a blowout from Texaco Finima-5 offshore station where 36 million liters of crude oil was spilled into the environment in 1980 as well. This led to the death of over 180 persons leaving rivers and water bodies within Sangama and four other
