Reinforcement theory discusses how an individual’s learning depends on the consequences tied to the behavior. In general there are two types of reinforcement: positive and negative. Positive reinforcement results when a behavioral consequence has strengthens the probability of the behavior being repeated; while negative reinforcement results when an undesirable consequence is withheld, strengthening the probability of the behavior being repeated. Negative reinforcement is often confused with punishment, but they are not the same. The Perfect Pizzeria employees took advantage of the managers due to the fact they were relatively the same and were receiving the same pay. Managers must tell the employees what they are not doing correct and learn how they can distribute positive reinforcement when deserved. The manager takes away free food from the employees as a punishment linked to job performance. This is an example of punishment because it removes positive consequences to lower the chance of repeating the poor job performance at Perfect Pizzeria behaviour in future.
