I never actually considered myself a pessimist, but I have always lived the life of one. Every year we purchased plants, seeds, and saplings while clearing and tilling several large garden plots. With the help of my family, we prepared, planted, weeded, and harvested our gardens. To my mother and sisters, planting the garden was a special event in which our family looked forward to our garden’s future production and harvest. While taking joy in the harvesting, this was never the way I viewed the planting. I spent most of my time worried that future droughts and storms would ruin our work before our new plants had sufficient time to grow. For the most part I was proven wrong, but still continued to think this way.
Another example was during my participation in our church choir. Wanting to become one of the top tenor voices, I tackled my study of music enthusiastically but fighting negativity along the way. I studied hard, but was never fully satisfied with my progress, and always believed no matter how much I practiced I would still be inadequately
