Being my parents first child, they were extremely indecisive when choosing my name. My name originated from the daughter “Audrey” in the comedy Christmas Vacation, as that is my parents all time favorite movie. Therefore, I was named Audrey Marie McAleer. My middle name, however, was passed on through various generations before me, and I couldn’t be more honored to be apart of the family tradition. Marie means “sea of bitterness.” Although I have been raised to be a kind-spirited individual, I can’t help but think it must be the name Marie which I can blame for the bitter side that comes out of me every now and then. Just ask my father, there have been several mornings where my bitterness can drive him up the wall and I’ll just blame my mother for it considering she is notorious for doing that too. My last name, oh my last time, we have a love hate relationship. Growing up through elementary school everyone, and I mean everyone could never seem to spell it right, including my teachers.
