He also has a school issued laptop, a smart phone and an iPad. After my observation I also asked Walker a few questions concerning his devices. When asked if his laptop has taken the place of textbooks at school he replied with "I have no textbooks whatsoever!" He went on to tell me that on a daily basis pencil and paper isn't required. Walker also added that everything he needs is on his laptop. He stated "we turn in homework through our laptop, study and take tests on it." When asked what he does once homework is finished he stated "I usually Facetime my friend Tanner. I Facetime him and we study together." I often find myself telling them to put them away after school work is finished. My husband and I had to implement the rules: no devices at the dinner table. As parents, we want our children to be well-educated and entertained. We rush to buy them the latest and greatest devices with good intent. We go to meetings and pay fees for them to use school issued devices so they may have everything needed to prepare for the future. But, are we causing more harm than intended or simply preparing our children for the technologically savvy world before
