I realise the teacher is trying to communicate.
“W-what?” I blurt and snap back to reality. I’m in Latin history and
I’m pretty sure I slept through the entire subject. I stare at the analogue clock and match my breath to the ticking.
“Did you not hear me, Lucas?” Mrs Varchsweid taps her foot faster than my heartbeat, “what’d I say?”
“Uhh…” I trail off and glance out the window to see Sarah walking home.
I hear the school bell chime. Home time. Everybody leaps out of their seats and scrambles to the door, and I get crumpled like a piece of paper; being short has its disadvantages.

I tend to lose my capability of listening from time to time. “Lucas!” Sarah shrills with a bad temper, hovering her hand back and forth in front of my eyes.
I finally respond, “What?”
“Ugh!” She heaves, “Go home Lucas.”
“Okay, see ya tomorrow” I say, steering the bike in the route back home.
I hear Sarah heave another sigh as she walks into her house’s doorway and slams it shut. When I return to my house, I hear muffled voices directing me upstairs.

The unknown voices are coming from the bathroom, but I cannot decipher what they are saying.

My breathing speeds up drastically as I stare, like a deer in headlights, at the reflection in front of me.
It’s a mirror, did mum put it here? I panic as I realise it isn’t portraying my true image; but rather something worse.
In the mirror stands a boy— it’s me, but again, it doesn’t have the same features.
Dark shaggy hair hangs over his eyes. I stare closer, the boy in the mirror has striking blue eyes, so blue it’s hypnotic.
He stands in an awkward position; mirroring me.
I step closer as does he, and reach out to the glass separating us. He tilts his head, and his coy expression is now consumed with frustration, as he reaches through the glass, breaking it and thrusting his bloody hand towards my neck…
