Logos is the appeal to logic, and you can establish that through facts, stats, examples, and personal experience. With already having a semester of college under my belt, I found it fairly easy to include personal experiences in my chapter. An example of me using logos when I said, “ As a Redbird I have found out that being an organized student is a very important aspect in becoming a successful student.”(LaTulip 5) This quote shows that through my first semester of college I have learned from experience that being an organized student will lead you to becoming a successful one. Another example of me using logos would be when I said, “Create a study schedule”. (LaTulip 6) I have learned that creating a study schedule helps you with starting to study for tests days in advance instead of the night before or possibly the morning of. This quote was one of my bullets under the “Tools for Organization” heading. One last example of logos in my chapter was when I said, “Having an understanding for the week ahead and knowing what needs to be completed is essential. As the week goes on it starts to feel very good to check stuff off your schedule or list.” (LaTulip 6) Logos is used here through personal experiences and how checking things off that I have completed makes you feel good. I wanted the audience to know this because if it made me feel good then it will make them feel good. Logos was used throughout my chapter …show more content…
As I mentioned earlier I thought this was the hardest one to use because I struggle to use emotion when I write. Pathos is the appeal to emotion using imagery or putting yourself in there shoes. My first example of pathos in my chapter is when I said, “Make sure to give yourself unscheduled time. Reason this is important is because we can’t predict the future, well maybe you can but I can’t, and emergencies come up all the time so it good to have that cushion to solve whatever is wrong”. (LaTulip 7) This resembles pathos because it has humor in it and it may make the audience smile or excited when they read it. It makes my chapter more laid back and everything not so straightforward. My second quote showing pathos is when I said, “What I mean is you start to leave for class at certain times, start to figure out what time you need to wake up everyday, and when do you prefer to eat.” In this quote it shows me putting myself in the audience shoes and respecting when they have class, when they need to wake up, and when the incoming freshman prefer to eat. My last example of using pathos is when I said, “Schedule time for activities such as going to the gym, joining an intramural team, or joining a club you want to be in.” (LaTulip 7) Pathos is used in this sentence by me making the audience excited that there is a gym, intramurals and clubs at ISU. I know this because when I came to visit the school last
