Many people in the inner city of Cincinnati look upon the library system as an entertainment or leisure place of congregation, not optimizing its true potential. I want to be in the forefront in the movement to change the mindset of how people view and use the library. The focal points of the programs I would like to have establish would be literacy, education, technology, and research. These are the main components everyone in society needs to have a strong foundation I to be successful. These programs would consist of computer classes and resume building for young adults and seniors, story time reading sessions for infants and toddlers, book club for adolescents and adults, and research seminars for grant writing, entrepreneurship, scholarships for college, and genealogy. Having these programs available and providing the environment that is inviting no matter your educational level, age, race, sex, or social status will be pivotal in establishing the library as a place of acceptance, assistance, and growth of self and the …show more content…
I speak to the patrons daily about the issues they are facing and what they feel that needs to be changed in the community and in the library system. Having this information, I believe I can integrate it and share it with my fellow classmates, professors, and members in the field the information I have gathered to make the necessary adjustments to be as efficient and helpful as possible to the patrons of our respective libraries. Also my passion for the advancement of literacy and education would be a great addition to the program and the field. I have an unyielding desire to be actively involved in children and adults learning skills that I can teach at the library and also helping them discover abilities within themselves they may have not been aware of that they have. The feeling of accomplishment of assisting a child read their first book, or aiding a novice computer using adult type a resume, or help a college student find scholarship options to help pay for school is unlike any experience I can think of. Knowing that I was able to be the person to help achieve those things gives me great pride and purpose. Traits that I would also be offering to the program and my field of
