Transgender people are one of the most under look society that receives almost no attention in the violence against them. The grounds that media shows is how they intentionally forget to talk about how the violence or death of trans person is even trans or use the sex that they were born with to refer to them when talking about their death. “The problem with the Times’ article on the death of Lorena Escalera, a transgender woman of color, is bigger than their “choice of words” or with their attempt to “capture” her story. It’s their failure to recognize trans women as women.” (NY Times Does Not Retract Dehumanizing Coverage of Trans Woman Who Died in Fire) The issue of refusing to recognize a person by their claim identity shows that the media has no empathy for a person’s life. The warrants on transgender violence is how the individuals are not getting respected for their identity and being overlooked as humans. The media tries to be accurate in sense that they feel it is necessary to point out how a Trans person is either not truly a male or female in their articles or presentation. The ethical dilemma that it violates is basic human dignity. The media does not understand how to refer to people on their identity they wish to be claimed as. This is an issue because the transgender person is no longer able to speak for themselves and the media then tries to speak up for them in negative matter that confuses society about the transgender community. The media is making a mockery of the community and makes no assurances to the community that it will educate its writers and editors about how to report on transgender people in the future. The issue is serious because human dignity is not being respected and if human dignity is not noticed then transgender people are not even viewed as humans. The media is portraying transgender people as if they were not humans and it has been ongoing issue that the transgender community has been trying to display to the media. They want the victim’s voices to be heard and not covered up, because a person’s identity to them is everything and society has to respect that. This has to be address because the media has to apologize publicly, and to tell its readers the steps being taken to ensure that future articles or reports would not dehumanize any transgender or person ever again.
