I'm completely against death penalty for many reasons. First, I don't believe we have the right to kill someone else even if they are a criminal. Also, everyone must have a chance to become a better person. The same result of the death penalty can be achieved by isolating those persons from society and trying to socialize them. If this nevertheless cannot be achieved, they should be isolated for all their life long. The US has many alternatives to imprisonment and have had to become creative about punishment in our justice system, too. We have made the changes mainly because of a rampant growth of perpetrators in our country. We have steadily moved away from capital punishment and hard labor as the society's sensibilities have been pricked, but the alternatives to the once harsher penalties have served to increase the prison populations. Over 120 people on death rows have been released innocent. Many had already served many years on death row. If we speed up the process we are bound to execute an innocent person. Once someone is killed the case is closed. If we execute an innocent person we are not likely to find that out and, also, the real criminal is still out
