The city of Philadelphia has adopted the three step process clean the water. This is Diagram to the right projects the ways that the Philadelphia Water Department cleans our drinking water and manages our waste water. Philadelphia’s sewage system is equipped with the best tools that are available. This includes a network of pipes that run 3,000 miles all throughout the city. The solution to this problem starts within the communities throughout the city. Philadelphia is known for being one of the largest cities in America but it also is considered one of the dirtiest cities as well. One of the first solutions is cleaning up the streets of Philadelphia. Throughout all my years of living in Philadelphia I have not gone a day without walking outside and seeing trash on the streets. Some of these problems are the fault of the citizens but also the city government as well. Poor neighborhoods tend to be more polluted and more neglected then richer neighborhoods which tend to be the cleaner areas of the city. These neighborhood tend to contain abandon unused land that tend to build up trash and this trash eventually gets taken by the storm water into our sewers and streams. If the city officials were to work on cleaning up and take care of these areas more it not only will help to clean our streets but our water as well. Also, cleaner neighborhoods lead to happier people, less drugs and more kids graduating from schools. Educating more people and creating events in neighborhoods such as these could help inform people how important it is that we stop the pollution and work on not taking what we have for granted. Another big issue when it comes to cleaning up our water and sewage systems
