Coke has a pH of 2.525. This number is near the end of the pH spectrum having high acidity. Since Coca Cola has the highest acidity we will use coke to test how acidity is affected by the freshness of soda. Having such a low pH means having high acidity. High acidity is not good for your health. Acidity will take away the negative charge from red blood cells. The result of this is that your red blood cells then clump together and not flow as easily as they would without the acid. Acid can also be very bad for your teeth. If the pH level in your mouth drops below the regular level of 5.5, your teeth will begin to demineralize. This means that it will take away the minerals that are needed for your …show more content…
We will be changing the freshness of the sodas. We will have a control group, which will be a can of freshly opened soda. We will also have a group of sodas that has been opened and sitting on the counter in room temperature open for an hour. We will have a group of cans that has been open for 2 hours. A group that has been open for 3 hours and another group open for 4 hours. We are going to have the cans open for different amount of times to let the carbon dioxide escape from the cans. This way we can measure how the different levels of carbon dioxide in the soda will affect its pH level. We are aware form previous scientific experiments that the more a procedure is repeated the more accurate the results are. Because of this we are going to have 5 sets of
