Behaviourism came about in response to psychoanalysis Freud, Erikson and Jung. Behaviourists thoughts were that psychology should focus on observable, measureable, external processes instead of internal processes in order for psychology to be a science. Bandura Social Learning theory falls somewhere between Freud’s Internal processes, introspection and Skinners external, observational behaviours, conditioning because social learning theory emphasizes both internal and external processes. Bandura Social Learning theory hypostatises that the course of learning is a cognitive process which may take place in either a social context and can also occur purely through observation or direct instruction. This can be found to be possible without of learning by doing or through direct reinforcement.
