My stand is this, if a patient has been diagnosed with a terminal illness that will lead to them to no longer enjoy the fruits of life, do your favorite activities such as cooking or jogging, enjoying your favorites food, unable to walk after a certain time, unable to make rational decisions. Unable to care for themselves without the assistance of a family member or a nurse, unable to do common daily personal hygienic routines such as feeding yourself, controlling your bladder, being able to use the bathroom, giving yourself a shower, being able to clean yourself after a bowel …show more content…
For instance at my per-diem job as a Certified Nursing Assistant, I care for healthy young and elderly , young and elderly mentally challenged residents, as well as patients whom are there for short periods of time due to recent surgeries. There are elderly residents whom simply needed light assistance such as help to and from a wheel chair. Even if a resident is paralyzed he or she can have a healthy functioning brain. The residents are independent regardless of being wheelchair bound. My assistance comes from helping them safely transfer to and from the toilet or a shower chair. After the resident is done using the bathroom he or she will clean themselves. This is because the patient is not bed bound or mentally challenged. We also have residents whom are bed bound, whom are unable to assist themselves in activities of daily living. They cannot tell time, year, season, if they are hungry, if they need to use the bathroom, where they are, watch TV, walk, nor recognize their loved ones. If for instance this patient was advise prior to their medical conditional worsening, that Physician-Assisted Suicide was an option. Would they choose this route? Would they prefer not to put their families to what could be years of emotional and financial distress? How would feel if you were diagnosed with an incurable terminal illness? What if this illness was a slow and
