It sets the standards sizes for everything used in the game of soccer. These regulations are required so both teams have an equal chance of winning. (MacKay, 22) The typical size of a soccer field is anywhere between 100 and 120 feet in length and 50 to 75 feet in width. There is a rectangular area in front of each goal that marks out the penalty area. This is known as the 18 because it is 18 yards away from the goal line. Each goal is 24 feet wide by 8 feet tall. The circumference of a regulation soccer ball is 27 inches and the average weight is 14 to 16 ounces. (Junio, John; Prezi.com) These dimensions were not chosen at random. The field's size helps determine how players position themselves within it. (MacKay, …show more content…
The goalie can not move off of their line until the ball is kicked. Therefore, the time they have to react to the shot is very minimal. To figure this out, one must first figure out how long it would take for a goalie to reach the top corner of either side of the goal. Khanacademy.org explains how to solve the answer to this question. They start by drawing a diagram of the goal and marking out the distance from the penalty line to the goalie and the distance from the penatly line to both of the goal posts.1 This diagram shows that these measurements form a right triangle, therefore can be solved by using the pythagorean theroem. It is already known that the first side, the distance from the penalty line to the goalie, is 36 feet. The second side would be the length of the goal mouth divided in half, which results in 12 feet. The pythagorean theorem states that the last side will be equal toThis is approxamately equal to 37.95 feet. After this answer is found, the next step is finding the distance from the penatly line to the upper corners of the goal. 2 This also forms a right triangle. The length the sides are already known to be 37.95 feet long and 8 feet tall. The equation to solve this would be which results in the answer of approximately 38.78 feet. To
