‘Ralph! Are you-’
‘glad we were-’
‘Rescued!’ Samneric shrieked. Ralph gave them no answer, he blankly stared into their eyes and returned to staring at the blank wall. Samneric looked at each other, shrugged, and ran back to their room. Night fell and the door locked as usual. A pink fluorescent light shone through the room landing right by Ralph’s feet. Ralph’s sobs were the only sound in the dark room. Ralph slid down the wall and cried.
‘Piggy, I, I want to know your name. Come back Piggy, come back.’
A few weeks after the incident, most of the boys in the building have gone back home to their families, even Jack Merridew and Roger. There was a plump woman clutching an inhaler walking down the corridor, making the air smell like sweets. Through his swollen eyes, Ralph knew that could only be Piggy’s auntie.
