These are the senior discipline for each force, also more commonly known as second in charge for the force. They have certain policy responsibilities as well as an overall eye of the performance of the force.
• Chief Constable – these people are more commonly known as the boss; larger forces the chief constable would tend to have been CC’s elsewhere before-hand.
• Assistant commissioner – there are only four AC’s and they carry out similar responsibilities to ACC’s, their responsibilities are used on a far broader scale, it is an equivalent in rank to the Chief constable.
• Deputy Commissioner – these are only within the metropolitan police, and they have similar roles and functions as the deputy chief constable within a non-London police force. The person who becomes the deputy commissioner is the 2nd highest ranking officer within the UK and they are usually chief constables before becoming a deputy commissioner. They normally get appointed by HM the Queen on the Home Secretary’s recommendation.
