PCOS is a complicated disorder that involves the endocrine system. Research has shown that it is a condition that is often present in women of reproductive ages, its main cause is not fully understood, but researcher have speculated that it is mainly a result from aspects such as being overweight (obesity), increased production of insulin and genetics. Having PCOS can drastically distress a woman health and mental state, placing her at increases risk for depression and anxiety. Other areas that PCOS can drastically affect is a woman social, marital and sexual life. Overall, women with PCOS can have decrease quality of life, this significantly makes it a relevant topic to this writer’s role (Bazarganipour, Taghavi, Montazeri, Ahmadi, Chaman, & Khosravi, 2015).
Role of Advanced Practice Nurse
Advanced practice nurse (APN) role is to manage PCOS appropriately, to optimized health promotion and increase quality of life for women with this disorder (Bazarganipour et al., 2015). Especially since obesity is a main contributor to PCOS, it is imperative for APN’s to promote lifestyle modification, which entails healthy eating habits, exercising and weight loss (Bates & Legro, 2013).

This model consist of six steps. The steps are as follow, step1: assess the need for change in practice. This step is the identification of the problem, which in this writer’s case would be obese women with PCOS. Step 2: Locate the best evidence, this step is as it state locate evidence pertaining to the problem, which includes research, guidelines, EBP guidelines. As pertain to obesity and PCOS, evidence will be collected pertaining to how obesity contributes to PCOS, the ramification of obesity on PCOS pertaining to women’s health and guidelines pertaining to identifications and managements of this condition. Step 3: Critically analyze the evidence, in this step the data that is collect on PCOS is analyzed, synthesizing and appraisal by placing the data in an evidence table. This step is use to determine whether the quality and strength of the data is sufficient to support the change. Step 4: Design practice change, in this step identification of resources, how to evaluate the change and how to implement the change with be determined pertaining to the study design.
