The coming of the Europeans to America was catastrophic for the indigenous American civilisations as the Europeans began settling in North America in the 17th century, when North America was less developed and less populated at the time, when English colonists arrived, costal Virginia was inhabited by the Powhatan Indians who were Algonquian-speaking people. The Powhatans lived in villages and villages within the same area belonged to one tribe. Each tribe had it’s own Werowance or chief, although the chiefs were were usually men, they inherited their positions of power through the female side of the family.
Europeans which were mainly (the French,British and Dutch) arriving in these regions are “primarily interested in settling” as they wanted to develop the place and make it their own home, meanwhile the Powhatans …show more content…
Some short term consequences that the Americans had against the Europeans is that the Americans lost control of their own territory thus meaning that the British already had taken over their land risking colonisation from the British. Long term consequences may include colonialism,culture clash as well as land. A short term consequence is that the Powhatan would have not received any metal and manufactured goods if the English became allies.
In conclusion, indigenous American societies were changed by the arrival of Europeans on American shores by the development done by the British. The construction of new facilities, and new ways to transport goods expanded North America and made it better for the Powhatans. Although battles were fought, they were trade partners and both need the goods from each
