It resulted in my introduction to the conversation being seen as disrespectful and arrogant context, which was not the intention. The owner of the multi-million dollar building company I was working for, was on a site visit as I proceeded to greet him with “sup bro” like I would all the other builders. The intention was for me to make myself known to him but it came across as disrespectful of his status within the company.

The incident resulted in the complete destruction of Air Cal 336 resulting in 34 injuries, 4 of them very serious. From the beginning of the scenario there is already evident internal noise that affects both pilots as the landing plane was Air Cal 336 and the plane taking off was Air Cal 931. This similarity would most definitely have caused uncertainty amongst them as it would’ve been unclear who the air traffic controller was addressing whilst sending out their instructions. The two air craft had indistinguishable call signs, causing the uncertainty to be quite consequent. However the main cause of noise came from the air traffic controller as in his attempt to prevent 336 from landing told them to “hold” which according to its meaning in the context of aviation means to stop immediately what you’re currently doing. Instead 336 perceived “hold” in the American English dialect which means to continue your current task. This act of code switching between aviation jargon and English dialect caused the controller to contradict himself causing different interpretations of the message. The noise in the communication between the two caused for 336 to receive the right message too late as it was en route to land but was then told to “abort” and proceeded to retract landing gear. However they had
