The main purpose of a project plan is to achieve a particular objective. It is more likely for you to be meeting a project deadline or objective if you follow a planned organized approach. It can also help to formalize this approach, the project plan must be written with the project objective in mind.

Every area of a project plan is fundamentally important to me, due to the nature of the processes and the effectiveness of the overall plan. From methodology to communication it is essentially ideal for there to be a balance within the structure of a project plan within all aspects or areas.

The critical path is the longest chain of task dependencies that can be traced down from beginning to the end of a project. It is important because it gives the estimation of how long your project will take to complete, even though it does not necessarily mean it is the same amount of time you have to complete it. It is also important to be able to have the chance to change the critical path when it is needed in the course of time of the project plan.

Slack time is the amount of the time of a non-critical path that can be delayed without completely delaying the project and its requirements.
