“Black people aren’t that good of a race right now”
Today I’m going to be talking about why the way black people are treated is harmful.
At the moment black people are still experiencing oppression and neglection, we do know that this is a country that was made by enslaved people, for white people. Take for instance, film was made to make “normal” people look the best they could. So a color reference card for “normal” film was made, These cards has the category “normal” and always showed a white woman, with black to dark brown hair. wearing bright clothing. In the 1970 problems arose people started to complain about how cameras could not notice the color different of light wood, and dark wood. So camera company’s started to change their formula so film take in a wider variety of colors, specifically brown. Violence towards black people and police brutality never ended, and rates have gone down, but it has begun to become prevalent in media. It started when in February 26, 2012 Zimmerman kills Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old, in Sanford, Florida. He would be charged with murder on April 11 and in July 13, 2013 Zimmerman is acquitted of all charges relating to Martin's death. Then on July 17, 2014, Eric Garner died in Staten Island, New York City, after a officer put him in what has been described as a submission hold while arresting him. Which was overuse of power. On July 6, 2016, Philando Castile was shot repeatedly and killed by Jeronimo Yanez, a police officer, after being pulled over.
