Advances have been made since being able to conduct nerve studies on patients. When a child is seen by a psychiatrist a thorough evaluation follows. Pinpointing what events and behaviors affected a child in such a way is like solving a mystery. In order for the psychiatrist to understand and emphasize with their patient putting themselves in their place is necessary. The psychiatrist will study the surroundings the child was born into, the relationship status of their parents, and the environment the patient was exposed to, amongst other contributing factors.
