The World Health Organization (WHO) defines of GM foods as “foods derived from organisms whose genetic material (DNA) has been modified in a way that does not occur naturally, e.g. through the introduction of a gene from a different organism” (WHO, 2015). Organizations like WHO and numerous authors during the past 20 years have investigated and written about the benefits of GM foods for humanity, and this will be the first of three benefits discussed in the following sections.
