Therefore, I will cling ever so tightly to the Blessed Mother’s hand, trusting that she leads me always to the LORD Jesus, who does not lose battles. If I should stray from Him for any reason, I will react with humility and once again ask Mary to help me to begin again and again.

In the Book of Proverbs, we read that a man is as he thinks within himself. The human spirit is attacked in many ways, but the most vigorous assault is that which happens upon our way of thinking. When I consider St. Paul’s long list of sins which he calls the works of the flesh, I notice that many of these are sins of the mind. When I have too great an admiration for myself, I may start making my own laws and become a judge of morality. In essence I become my own god. Soon the ego is elevated and it produces criticism, back-biting, slander, and character assassination. Then comes boasting and self-glorification, with the love of publicity and conceit in what others say. Hypocrisy and pretentiousness soon fall in line, and before long there is discord and a resentment of anyone who dares to cross me.
