Racial and ethnic discrimination has always been a prominent discussion theme in minority households which is why social scientists are now becoming greatly interested in looking at this phenomenon. By analyzing the frequency of their discussions it was concluded that no significant ethnic group differences could be found among the three minority groups observed using ANCOVA. However there was more variance reported due to race related phenomenon among parents who had children between the ages of 10 through 17. In addition to using ANCOVA, a series of ordinary least squares regression equations were used to test their hypothesis but there was no significant differences among ethnic minorities in cultural socialization. However, African Americans showed more racial bias preparation over Dominican or Puerto Rican parents.

This research published in American Journal Of Community Psychology in 2003 sheds light into a rising interest among social scientists. Race relations play a vital role in socializing our youth and it’s a topic that continues to need updated research. During the time it was published the research was innovative but the author stated many limitations. The author used data available to her at the time but now it may be considered outdated. The findings in this research suggest that skin color is an effective tool used to promote white supremacy by oppressing “dark” skin colors.
