“The Slave Side of Sunday” written by Dave Zirin, in which he showed and compared football with in being slaved. The article shows the former NFL player Anthony Prior’s viewpoint about the hierarchy and in how privileged the whites are in a NFL team. The hierarchy in the NFL is simply, the black society alias the players are on the bottom, above them are the coaches (mostly white) who “controls” them and then on the top there are the white Owners and General Managers. “He sees this lack of control being intimately tied with a dynamic where 65 percent of the players are African-American, yet only 18 percent of coaches, 6 percent of general managers and no owners are anything other than white” (Zirin, 452). We can find in this statement black people in the higher hierarchy but it’s again the minority. Players do not have any voice in a team nor do they have any control over if they get traded, drafted or sold to another team, unfortunately they just seen as a player with not much to say. The way to make whiteness visible is to speak on it and bring it to everyone’s attention and that is what the author want to do. Everyone if not most people are aware of it, but they choose to not acknowledge how the whites are privileged. Unless people don’t change their approach, attitude and mindset towards racism, we never can fully get rid of this huge, cruel issue. All races deserve and should get equal opportunities in their life. It is up to us as a society to recognize and change our mindset. We live now in such a modern, technology time where we always reach for a better access to others in upgrading our lifestyle and devices, but have we ever thought about to upgrade our beliefs and mind? We receive so many different information’s from all kind or sources like family, friends, social media, commercial, etc. Those second hand info’s are incomplete, misleading and inaccurate assumptions/stereotype thinking shaped by society.
