Aria's cranial Nerve Case Study Professor: Sandra Clabough Pragya Devkota Khanal 11/17/2017 Introduction: This study examined Aria, a 30-year-old woman who was recently brought in the emergency room after a bicycle accident. Apart from her external physical injuries, it is assumed that she may have internal head injuries due to the visible fracture of her temporal bone.…
Introduction What is carpal tunnel syndrome? Well basically carpel tunnel syndrome is a disease where the patient feels a tingling sensation in their hands and arms. He might feel that his hand or arm has gone numb. This disease is mainly caused by the twisting of the nerve that goes to the wrist of the patient. This problem can be caused due to a number of reasons, including the nature of the work done by the hands, the forceful and sudden movements of the hands even sudden jerks done to the hand can cause carpet tunnel syndrome.…
DOI: 1/20/2016. Patient is a 62-year-old right hand dominant female sonographer/cardiovascular technician who sustained bilateral pain and numbness of hands, left arm and shoulder due to repetitive movement. Per OMNI, the patient had bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome, left rotator cuff tendinitis, and strained muscles and tendons of the left rotator cuff. Per the medical report dated 07/19/16, the patient is being evaluated for her progressive paresthesias in both hands along the median nerve distribution, involving the thumb, index, and long fingers, especially when she performs repetitive activities.…
Chiropractic treatment was invented in the late 1890s and is a very popular alternative treatment all over the world. Invented by an American who had a great interest among people. Chiropractic treatment basically comprises of treatment of joints and the bones of the body through manual means. The tendons, muscles and ligaments of the body are treated with the hand which is considered to be extremely effective. People usually go for chiropractic treatment when other medical treatments have failed.…
Influencing the Outcome for Effective Treatment of Cubital Tunnel Syndrome Cubital tunnel syndrome is the second most common compression neuropathy of the upper extremity after carpal tunnel syndrome (Trehan et al, 2012). It represents a source of considerable discomfort and disability for the patient and in extreme cases may progress to loss of function of the hand (Cutts, S., 2007). Some specialists refer to this condition as ulnar nerve compression as it takes place within the cubital tunnel and most commonly occurs at the elbow (Trehan et al, 2012). Pressure is put on the ulnar nerve each time the elbow is bent which reduces the supply of blood to the nerves and causing damage over time (Trehan et al, 2012).…
Neurosurgeons look at conditions related to the brain and central nervous system. Their goals include saving lives and helping patients thet go through serious spinal injuries or damage to your nerves. On most websites it says that the annual salary for neurosurgeons can be 430,000 dollars or more. One reason neurosurgeons are well paid is because of the regular drawbacks of their work. They are alwayse in lawsuits because of the seriousness of their work.…
It affects the sensory and motor information going to all four limbs. If the injury occurs in the thoracic spinal cord, the arms are okay but the patient is paralyzed from that point down. That is called paraplegia. Both quadriplegia and paraplegia can be complete or incomplete.…
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition in which the space within the carpal tunnel in your wrist is reduced and the median nerve, one of the major nerves in your hand, is pinched as it travels through the tunnel. Injury, fractures, rheumatoid arthritis, work stress, repetitive use of hand tools, and things such as factory work, gardening, or typing over a long period of time, are typical causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. If your job makes your carpal tunnel worse, doctors often recommend a change in profession. Some exercises can help.…
The inclusive criteria were that participants must be within the ages of 20-40 years old and experience pain while performing any two of the three tests. The three tests performed were resisted middle finger extension, resisted wrist extension, and passive stretch of the wrist extensors. The 45 subjects were also required to meet the exclusive criteria as well as participate in the study. Any of the following would disqualify the participate: Bilateral elbow pain, history of surgery to the elbow or distal upper extremity, combined lesions, any medications or injection to the elbow in the past, any other medical or neurological condition, any patient experiencing pain beyond 6 weeks, allergies to adhesive tape and inability to fill the questionnaire. This questionnaire was the Patient-Rated Forearm Evaluation Questionnaire (PRFEQ).…
Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic (lasting greater than six months) pain condition that most often affects one limb (arm, leg, hand, or foot). CRPS is believed to be caused by damage to, or malfunction of, the peripheral and central nervous systems. CRPS is divided into two types: CRPS-I and CRPS-II. Individuals without a confirmed nerve injury are classified as having CRPS-I (previously known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome). CRPS-II (previously known as causalgia) is when there is an associated, confirmed nerve injury.…
During this condition, the nerves controlling muscle movement becomes hyperirritable. Due to this the skeletal muscles become unable to function in a coordinated manner. Therefore, spasmodic muscle contractions are caused by the impulses that are arisen from them. Severe spastic paralysis may be caused by various kinds of brain damage or stroke, even by spinal cord…
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome(CTS) happens when your median nerve, which runs from your forearm into the palm of your hand, becomes pressed or squeezed at your wrist. Your median nerve provides feeling to your palm side of your thumb & to your index, middle, & part of your ring fingers. Meaning you won’t feel those fingers move or crack. It’s also not a disease which means you can’t catch it from someone else. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is often the result of a combination of factors that reduce the available space for the median nerve within the carpal tunnel, rather than a problem with the nerve itself.…
Most people do not know what exactly a neurosurgeon is. Many people believe that a neurosurgeon is a surgeon that works on the brain and the brain only. They believe that a neurosurgeon is just like Dr. Shepherd on the hit show since 2005, Grey's anatomy. Little do they know that that's not what all neurosurgeons do. A neurosurgeon is a surgeon who specializes in the surgeries, and diagnostics treatment of the peripheral and central nervous system, which is the spine, nerves, and brain, this including trauma, tumors, vascular disorders, strokes, certain birth defects, and infections of the brain and the spinal cord.…
The trochlear nerve supplies only somatic efferent motor fibers. Is the only cranial nerve to exit from the dorsal aspect of the brain, and it has the longest intracranial course of any cranial nerves. Nuclei : In the midbrain of the brainstem.…
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you could cut into a human body without being convicted of committing a crime? Luckily, there are a lot of jobs and profession in the job market that allow you to do just that. My ultimate accomplishment in life will be to become a Neurosurgeon because the anatomy of the human body fascinates me by how each individual component of the human body works as if it is a machine. My interests include things that are somewhat related to my career field but I do enjoy playing with animals, watching movies, driving, messing with my mother medical equipment, and I love science. The careers that fit my interest are Veterinarian, Surgeon, Nurse, Cab driver, Biologist, Chemist, Biomedical Sciences, Microbiology, Marine Biologist, Zoologist, etc.…
